About Feed the Hood
The Feed the Hood program provides community members with large scale opportunities to donate money, goods and time to provide food and necessities to unhoused populations across Oakland. EOC hosts the large scale Feed the Hood events bi-monthly. Since September 2017, the Feed the Hood program has galvanized over 3,000 community volunteers, distributed over 30,000 lunches, distributed 10,000 hygiene kits, and served over 5,000 unhoused persons across Oakland. The Feed the Hood program has inspired schools, corporations and community groups throughout the Bay Area to find ways to help tackle the homelessness crisis as classroom and student projects.

I Love Being Black featured Feed the Hood and the homelessness
crisis in Oakland
Homelessness in Oakland has grown by more than 25% over the last two years with there being 3,000 homeless persons-- 70% of which are unsheltered. African-Americans make up 28% of Oakland’s population, but disproportionately account for 70% of the homeless population and are heavily located in Deep East Oakland. I Love Being Black went live to their 6 million+ Facebook followers during Feed the Hood 4 on Sunday, February 4, 2018 to document this large scale opportunity to give back to Oakland and to shed light on some of the issues affecting the Black homeless population in Oakland.
